Up close and personal with the amazing Hammond Novachord, a polyphonic synthesizer from 1939. It's hardly a Steven Spielberg production but you should be able to get a feel for this incredible instrument. More at http://www.hollowsun.com/shop/novachord or http://www.novachord.co.uk

  • Am I listening to old school Tangerine Dream?

  • @dctim ..... No - their grandparents! ;-)

  • @opedroefeio Strange but true!!! :-\

The Vera Lynn recommendations might seem a bit odd too but are there because she used a Nova on some of her tunes, particularly a version of 'We'll meet again' where she's accompanied by Arthur Young on Novachord.

  • @nuswolloh but rick roll = epic fail

  • @opedroefeio But beyond my control sadly!

  • @synthelab0 440 Watts with the PA Chassis fitted - actually not too bad for 163 tubes.

  • How much power does the Novachord consume?

  • @namco21gamefreak World War 2. Also, it was not commercially successful, as they couldn't sell them for a reasonable price.

  • Why did Hammond stop producing this it could've created a nice little nest egg for them?

  • Amazing that this thing introduced sounds that would take 40 years to become common in music, and it did it with an organic richness and an element of class that the Yamaha DX7 or Korg Triton never had.

I think I'd trade nearly everything I have for one of these beautiful instruments.

  • @patsaxon Hammond were making chord organs in the early 50's with the S-100 which was inproduction right up to the late 60's.

  • Amazing that Hammond was way ahead of it's time back then, when introducing this intrument. It is too bad that they did not keep it in production long enough to get into synthesizer music and rock music. Hammond was so far behind in the 1970's as it was not until the early 1980's is when they had one finger chords technology such as Compos-A-Chord, like Kimball, Thomas, Baldwin, Yamaha many others.

  • Ahhh its The origins of Goldfrapp
