Actually, the music to the song is from the old tune Reuben, also known as Reuben's Train. Still, Earl didn't write it. It was the first tune he arranged 3 finger style, when he was a lad. When Bobby and Sonny Osborne recorded the song "Ruby", they took the the music from the forementioned tune and added words to it.
Wow! Such a talent, even at the tender age of seven! You can tell that he gave Flatt and Scruggs both such a chuckle of delight to hear him sing the lines, "Honey, are you mad at your man?"...it's just adorable! Thanks so much for sharing the video...just great. : )
