@matttd i totaly agree wi u! but the new Pentalina is pretty gd 2 i am so excited cos i am cumin back up 4 a holiday on saturday!
-
I reckon the St Ola could take a bigger sea- The old Claymore and Petalina B were good vessels too were they not?
-
Which Ola are we taking about? I sailed on the last three, from 1970 right up until P&O lost the tender.
As an expat Orcadian,my last three trips back to Orkney were in mixed conditions,i just felt that even on a calm day, there was more motion on the Hamnavoe than on the Ola....In fact, for the first time,i threw up the entire crossing!.Could have been all the beers the night before though,eh?
Whatever, the Hamnavoe is a bonnie vessel.

The Hamnavoe is pretty top heavy, but anyone who does this route alot can tell you that if her stabilizers are working she can ride much heavier seas than the st ola.... theres even a song about how rubbish and roly poly the st ola was!
-
i was out at the back when that happend it was mental
-
omg iv been on much worse. iv been of the saint ola the p&o boat it was omg
-
I was on that Crossing

To be honest,i feel that the Hamnavoe is poorly designed and is way too top heavy.
The previous two Ola's seemed more at ease on rough weather.Anyone agree?
Pretty damned luxurios inside though!

Not when you actualy work on it and are trying to sleep, after a few weeks of this it gets rather tiresome. I have been in a lot lot worse though, the rolling is worse for sleeping than the pitching.
i remember the ola getting battered like this back in the day...i also have a picture of the sunniva in similar conditions, with the propellers stickin out of the water.
