http://www.instructables.com/id/On_Board_Air_Compressor_Welder_for_vehicles/

This is my entry to the Craftsman Workshop of the future contest, at Instructables. I will show how to build a on-board air compressor from a mopar RV2 AC compressor and a on-board welder from a delco CS-144 alternator. This is part 1 of 2

  • Why didn't you just buy a vair 480c compressor? My dual compressor setup is bolted under my chassis, costs $300.00 and took 1 hour to install. Why clutter your engine bay up with all that crap?

  • Why would I pay $300 for a electric compressor that doesn't put out as much air as my belt driven unit when the belt driven compressor and all the other components cost about $100 total?

  • 1. It's a Jeep any fuel savings would be offset by the time and effort to remove the compressor, and I use it enough that I would even think of removing it.

    2. Again it's a jeep they hold there value very well, and if I ever sold it its a offroad 4x4 the buyer would likey pay a premium because of the extra componets.

  • that's why you utilize the compressor clutch, energized by the pressure relief/regulator valve, it'll kick on when you need it, and free spin when you don't.

Do your homework, and use the grey matter between your ears once in a while.

and about value retention, I sold a vehicle 2 years ago with a custom York OBA setup, the guy willingly paid me $500 just to keep it in the truck, I paid $150 for everything needed...... I've already built another one to install in my ZR2 after it's 4bt swap.

  • I totally thought you were gonna nail that radiator...

  • I quit listening when he said his good tools were craftsman.... Go buy some real good tools, like S-K, K-D, MAC, Easco, Snap-On, or Proto. Craftsman are junk, in my experience. Yes they have a lifetime warranty, but the since time is money, the time you spend to go replace the broken tool is better spent buying good quality tools to start with.

  • @TheMRWOODIE nothing. i like em too. but some of them are just total crap.

  • @TheMRWOODIE

Whats wrong with Harbor Freight tools? They work good, cost less, And if some wanker jacks them from your truck your not out alot of money

  • WOW because everyone likes dropping thin sharp sticks of metal atop our motors... Sry had to Poke, Otherwise Great setup

  • you really love harbor freight tools dont you?

  • Good stuff man!

nvm the ppl who have the mindset "stop making stuff that I don't like" y'know?!!

  • @vandamage02 yeah. that is a complete waste of time.
