Steve Kaufmann talks about an item from his blog, The Linguist on Language, (www.thelinguist.blogs.com) involving a heated exchange of views with the US Center for Applied Linguistics.
The funny thing is that even with their degrees and jargon about language they probably actually realize very little. Krashen's and others' research has been around for three decades and explains all the main concepts brilliantly. I think academics feel the need to invent new areas of research and study in order to have something to do.
But but isn't what you call (or in similar words) the "parasitic" class, part of the "profit" economy? If so, by your own criteria, "why knock them?".
I saw the letter Steve. These people have been in their ivory tower so long they become snobbish and very closed minded towards others' thoughts about their "expertise." Keep up the good work.
