Olga's Project - Italian Corner (Livingstone, Zambia) - English.avi

On 1 September 2008 CeLIM launched Olga's - Italian Corner Restaurant in the city center of Livingstone.

How did the idea of an Italian restaurant (see Menu) in Livingstone, that can give a job to many young people who had a degree in YCTC Center born?
We have to be grateful to Lucia and Alessandro, two generous donors who inherited by Grandmother Olga her patrimony that should be used in a concrete and useful way. Lucia and Alessandro have followed step by step, together with volunteers, the dream becoming reality.

This project is strictly connected to the presence of CeLIM in Livingstone and to the strengthened trusty relationship with the Diocese. The YCTC Center and the high number of enrolled students of these last 5 years have laid the foundation to build a restaurant that can be not only a job opportunity for catering degreed students but also a place where handicraft, made in the Center, can be sold. The restaurant offers also sleeping accommodation for 12 people (in 6 tends) and a special and unique menu.

Olgas is a showcase for the trade of YCTC Center products, that allows to self-finance YCTC activities and to give job opportunity to many AIDS orphans.

Ilaria and Michele are two volunteers who since 2003 have followed every single step of the project, helped by the architects Stefania and Maria and the chefs Giuseppe, who still today is committed in training chefs, promoting the restaurant and accountancy.

Today Olgas employs 12 local people and some of them are former YCTC students.
Local volunteers are very satisfied, the promotion before the launching has attracted many customers made up of tourists and local people. The strengths of the project are several: low prices, quality and the uniqueness of Italian food in Livingstone.
The restaurant is open from 7 AM to 11 PM with shifts of 8 hours.
