Chasing ELS 501 South - Lena to Green Bay 4/20/2008

After I got bored watching Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad 1221 and 600 switch Crivitz, I took off back south on US 141 in pursuit of the train bound for Green Bay, with ELS' ex-EMDX/MILW SD40-2 501 leading ex-Conrail GP38 ELS 402.

I beat it past the US 141 crossing north of Lena (seen in the second part of the ELS 600 chase video) and set up at the Butterfly Lane railroad crossing between there and Lena. The next scene is the train crossing the Oconto River bridge at Stiles, just south of Stiles Junction. Then is the County Highway S crossing in Sobieski, WI.

Next are some hastily grabbed digital camera video clips as I barely beat the train to the County Highway B (School Lane) crossing at Suamico. Second-to-last scene is the curve just west of the Lakeview Drive crossing in Howard, on the CN Marinette Subdivision. The video was shot from the Mountain Bay State Trail, itself a former C&NW right-of-way.

Finally, the train enters CN's North Green Bay Yard at the N. Military Avenue crossing. The burnt-out light and non-sounding bell have been fixed by CN's signal maintainers.

hell, thats what half of the track up here in NH looks like!
