amazing solo sound, is it anywhere a bedroom volume? or way beyond? I'm looking for sth to play in a small flat, but also cool for small gigs.

Great amp, great vid. As stated below, the key to get rid of the hiss is the PI. I have in my r55 now running a Telefunken ECC81 in the PI - feels like wasting a collectors item, but it is a significant improvement.
-
The whole thing about balanced PI's is snake oil, nothing more. Also, if you want to get rid of hiss, I would try either a JAN Phillips 5751 or Mullard 12AT7 (the ones you get from The Tube Store, not the SUPER old ones) in the PI. It will clean up the signal some before hitting the power amp, reducing high gain noise and adding a bit of clean headroom.

nice thumbs up

Mine are fine but I just wanted to know because they still sound elite but they're like 8 years old (they still sound fine because the previous owner was a purist who barely used them, and stopped gigging shortly after getting it)
-
Are you experiencing any problems then? If I recall correctly the last preamp tube is a phase inverter and it's not a bad idea to use a balanced 12ax7 in there. Though I have a vague memory of Paul Rivera (saw a clinic of his last year) stating that it will work just fine with a regular tube. I've had Tung Sol and JJ 12AX7's in there for a couple of years and they sound pretty good to me.

Hey man, I'm back again! Do you know if this amp has a cathode follower stage? I'm looking at some tubes (mine are perfect, just so I know for the future) and the Tung Sol 12AX7 seem to be really nice but they're affected by this, whatever it is.

Get to writing more of that solo album! I want to hear your guitar scream!

Thanks! I use the high gain input, volume (gain) on 8, bass 6, middle 4/5, treble 5 (later on it's on 6/7), master 2 (pull out for boost) and presence on 4. The pickups in this guitar have high output, so that also adds to the sound.

Mate! I'm in love weeks later with my R100. What was your EQ on the 4th change of the video? Basically, the first metal-ish section you played. I totally like that tone man!
-
I do! zomg! The crunch on channel 1 is mind blowing and the cleans are damn awesome. I could go on about it for so long but it just totally owns.
-
No problem, Leon787. I'm sure you'll love the amp.
-
Thanks for the reply mate! I'm getting it tomorrow! and I sure won't doubt getting it because this video just blew me away beside the many reviews on in this lovely classic amp. God Bless.
Good choice on speakers. Classic Leads output frequencies that most speakers don't. Great tonal balance lows mids, highs and everything inbetween, the only downside is that they can be harsh with a poor EQ setting or the wrong amp.

@shred5 I'm quite pleased with them, though I think they'd probably sound better in a closed cabinet. They have a more balanced sound to them than other guitar speakers imo.

How cool, the L500 actually has some nice clean sounds.
roadtonever 1 year ago
Yes, they sound pretty nice clean. They have a lot of output, but the sound is clean. The L500XL is supposed to be their hottest pickup, but it still sounds very acceptable when used with a clean setting. I also use a Megaswitch P which allows for different combinations of the coils.

@edovinus
Which switching combos have you found that you like?
roadtonever 1 year ago
@roadtonever Mostly use the bridge, neck and inner coils in paralel (semi singlecoil combo).
