(00:17-00:22) The Douro wine region is centered around the Douro River in the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region.
Sometimes referred to as the Alto Douro (upper Douro), it is located some distance upstream from Porto, sheltered by mountain ranges from coastal influence.

The main grape varieties produced in the Douro Valley are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca for Red wines and Malvasia, Rabigato and Viosinho for White wines.
