This exhibit details the growth and decline of one of America's darkest moments in Human Rights History. • Update from the Stonewall Library and Archives. Since the Anita Bryant exhibit first appeared in 2003 it has travelled to 10 cities and has been seen by close to half a million people. The Stonewall has moved into new space, inside a public library building making it the only Gay and Lesbian Library in the US supported by a city and county government. Our acceptance into the mainstream community is a testament to all those who stood up to bigots like Anita and made our faces, and voices heard...

  • Nate Klarfeld, from Stonewall Library here. Anita is in fact broke and on the skids. Her Tulsa ministry has been evicted on non payment of rent and her last checks to grocery store bounced. She did earn over 10 million dollars in her career according to her manager Dick Shack, but blew it on all her religious crusades.. The upside is we have 5 strong national political organizations the came out of her hate. She spawned the gay activists like me into action. America's Gay Library! Stonewall

  • It is suspected that most gay bashers are latent homosexuals who hate themselves enough to beat up the people they are attracted to.

  • Hey no need to call heteros breeders. I'm straight and I am committed to marriage equality and to ending bigotry toward my gay friends and neighbors. I have written off friends who voted for prop 8 and taken on my whole family who are homophobic Christians. I've given birth do only one child and he is gay and I support him with all my being. I am hardly a breeder. You have many straights on your side, please don't lump us together with idiots.

  • @monkeyteach...Of course, Anita Bryant could never assemble a news conference in 2011. Homosexuals have done such a terrific job at demonizing anybody who doesn't accept their practices that nobody - especially a complicit media - is going to even want to appear at such an event. Of course, demonization is not reflective of 'tolerance;' it truly is the hatred and bigotry of today. It's essentially saying, 'agree with us - or we'll do all we can to destroy you'..and Anita Bryant was destroyed.

  • @johnlorican The joke was actually on Anita. We've now found out that she wasn't so much on a Mission from God as it was revenge. Court Papers have shown that her first of three husbands at the time was leaving her because he was gay and her eldest son came out as a proud gay not too long after. She spread lies and bigotry and now is the joke. She couldn't get a news conference recently to promote another anti gay ministry in Oklahoma. She forced the gay community to come out of the shadows...

  • Anita Bryant did the right thing - and paid the price.

She was demonized (as in the movie, 'MILK'), called names and had pies thrown against her. All of this, of course, was done by people who are always talking about 'tolerance.'

Anita Bryant did what was 'politically incorrect' - and what is 'political incorrectness?'

Simple; anything that the left finds offensive - and if the left is offended, they will try to destroy you...all in the name of 'tolerance.'

    What a joke.

  • @BanGayMarriage opposing people like you is not blasphemy

you want the right to discriminate against gays and lesbians

    which is wrong

  • @BanGayMarriage

"Anita Bryant was a great pioneer of the anti-gay rights cause"

That's like being "a great pioneer of anti Civil Rights causes"

and yes...you should be THAT ashamed.

  • @buddmar

"The gay rights campaign in 1977 was 34 years ago and nowadays very very few people know who Anita Bryant is or what the controversy was about"

The Milk movie gave her a little bit review.

On top of that her legacy lives on...did you see the Prop 8 conservatives use the "for the children" BS? The whole "those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it".
