The Muslim Student Association and the International Peace and conflict Resolution Program has begun a new series of lectures aimed at introducing students, both Muslim and Non-Muslim, to how Islam can contribute to the various facets of modern life. These lectures were considered necessary to diffuse perceived anxiety and tensions in the student body following 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan, and have now been extended to include current issues. The MSA and IPCR program hope these lectures will help address the negative stereotypes about Muslims and Islam that, they feel, are often used in the mainstream media.
