In this lesson I thought that we could go over the quarter note triplet and playing it with the swing pattern. There's triplets that land on the beat and triplets that land off the beat. In other words the triplet starts on beat 1 or the triplet starts on the and of 1. We put the triplet on the snare, hi-hat, and kick. Then we break them up between the drums. This type of exercise is great for working on your four-way coordination, getting that swing patter to be rock solid, and also for different comping ideas.

  • Quick question, I saw a video of a drummer (can't remember the video or drummer) but he did this roll on the snare with a bass drum patter that went out of time with the swing but worked perfectly! Any idea who may have done this or how it was done? I'm assuming flams maybe?
