A Syosset Taxi cab swerved off Jackson Ave. while traveling Northbound and crashed through a fence. The vehicle landed on the double tracks of the Long Island Rail Road shorting out the 'third' rail against another 'ground' rail. The driver and passenger escaped with minor injury. This video was taken with a Palm Pre Plus cell phone so there was no zoom function. I stayed away because the tires and other objects were exploding. The Syosset fire department is located only a few hundred feet behind where I was standing so the ride to the scene was quite short. The delay in extinguishing the fire was due to the third rail remaining energized and, obviously, water would also complete a circuit like the taxi and result in a dangerous condition for the fire fighters. You can hear popping sounds throughout the video and at ~5:16 you can hear a crackle which was caused by sparking from the still energized thrd rail! This is not seen easily in the video but very evident in person. BE SURE TO WATCH THE PERSON WHO STARTS TO CROSS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT 1:35 INTO THE VIDEO. THE FIRE ENGINE IS STEAMING INTO THE ZONE AND HE MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO ATTEMPT TO HUSTLE AND GET OUT OF THE WAY! CALLING DARWIN...

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!! our trucks at Upper Saucon dont have Air Horns that loud!!!!!!! Syosset Engine 1, sounds a lot like Coopersburg's Engine 412, those air horns are mighty loud, they got some pressure moving through those trumpets!!!!!

  • If you look closely you can see some people hold their ears when the truck goes by!

ur a fucking moron. more than 70% of firemen in this country are volunteer. which means they stop what theyre doing, fly up to their firehouse, gear up, wait for everyone to come up, then get on the trucks to save idiots like you. IT TAKES QUITE SOME TIME.

  • nicee water on fire within 1 min!!!!

  • hahaha nice video

  • syosset represent...i live there lol i rememeber when this happened everyone was talking about it at school...also i hear my friends dad in the video

  • whats wrong with you you shouldve got a good vid

  • @Justin3Blair

maybe because they are all volunteers who drop what they're doing.

  • my dad couldn't go to work.....REPRESENT!

  • its funny it took so long for the 911 because its litterally right next to the station

  • almost got to see live

  • @jcara17 oohh yeah, I know!!! those air horns are mighty loud, I mean they got some pressure moving through those trumpets to make them sound like that, no regular air horn, not even an ordinary emergency air horn is that loud without some modification, and if you listen closley, before he blasts the air horns, as they approach, you can hear the sound of them running the Q2B siren
