I was part of a group in high school that worked out what we were told was a good rendition of this song for the yearly talent show. We got horn players from the school band and everything. It was so cool and fun to do. I played guitar and sang back up. Two days before the show some geniuses on the school board decided we couldn't do the song because it "mentions addiction to cigarettes and wine". We were so pissed off. All that rehearsal and hard work for nothing.
Bob Seger never recorded this one in the studio. His live recording from his NINE TONIGHT album recorded in 1980,not '81,did spend some time on the pop/rock charts. The album was released in '81.
I have this vinyl record and I just love this song......PBO

Look for the original by Otis Clay. It's a studio version and it's awesome.
