Here, I ring 611's bell as a ritual of mine paying tribute to N&W 611, the finest passenger engine ever built. 611 is on display at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, VA.

  • how come 611 bells is all the way in the front?

  • @pennyf9 611 is considered a modern steam locomotive, 1950 built. At that time, railroads and railroad manufacturers who still were building steam were always looking for more efficient or more distinguishable designs to their products. 611 was the first J class (I think) to have her bell placed in front of her left cylinder. Tennessee Valley Railroad's 2-8-0 #610 also has her bell mounted the same way as N&W 611's.

  • Well Done, it's good to hear the sounds of steam every now and again.

  • @steved0689 Thanks, and it sure is. :)

  • really, the bell is under

    the 611s stairs

  • Good to hear 611's bell ring once in while. I did ding the bell with my key chain when I was there over the summer.

  • ok...?
