Silence Before the Storm is an incidental music piece from the video game Final Fantasy X (for PlayStation 2). It is heard in the the Kilika Woods, the Cave of the Stolen Fayth, and in the Macalania Woods.

This has been one of my favourite pieces of incidental music from FFX so I'm really glad that I finally got around to doing an piano arrangement of the OST. The modulations in this piece are just so relaxed and poignant.

I used the HamieNet MIDI-to-MP3 converter this time so the audio should be much more pleasant to the ear. I think I will use this method from now on.

Tricky things in this arrangement:

Both the upper melodic line and the bass line play important roles. The bass line has its own "melodic line", indicated by the tenuto markings.

The tricky middle voices are shared by both hands sometimes for sake of ease in playing, but are mostly played or simulated by the left hand.

The use of pedal is important in this arrangement, as much of the melody's resonance relies on natural reverb.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

You can find the score on my website at: http://www.audiomuse.ca .

Enjoy. :)

  • you should do an arrangement of "at Zanarkand"

it's an beautiful piece in my opinion

then again, i'm not sure how you can arrange it any better than the perfection it already is...

  • @Belgarion234 Thanks for your request. There already exists a pretty faithful piano arrangement of "At Zanarkand" in the piano collections or OST piano book, so I probably won't be arranging that.

  • One thing that I don't particularly agree with is the arranger's use of octaves to simulate the harmonics of the guitar. Furthermore, this effect ends when the melodic line comes in, creating a sort of void in the ear of the listener. In my arrangement, I try to get around this issue by using just two simultaneous voices to simulate the guitar accompaniment. That way, the texture remains more or less consistent for the entire piece.

  • Waow. Beautiful... 'wait sheets music.

  • @zeryx28 Are you using Sibelius? How do you make the voice connect between staves?

  • Can someone turn on the midi file please ?

  • @zeryx28: Yeah I ended up getting a sustain pedal for my keyboard

    Cheers for replying

  • @visiting31 Well, it's still possible to play, but you just wouldn't be able to sustain those long notes. Are you playing on a synthesizer? I am sure you can get a sustain pedal for a relatively low price.

  • @zeryx28: Is it possible to play this on a keyboard with no sustain pedal? I tried learning this a while back and it seemed impossible lol

    thanks

  • @zeryx28 I agree!!
