You may have heard that, in 1948, Charles Laughton appeared in the movie "On Our Merry Way" playing a minister, but his part ended on the cutting room floor. Well, it is true... in the US. A complete, alternate print containing the Laughton part (but, interestingly, not the Dorothy Lamour one) and titled "A Miracle Can Happen" (indeed!) reached the coasts of Europe, and it's the version widely seen (TV, video, DVD) in Spain. Now here's the scene for your enjoyment. As a bonus, I'm also uploading the credits sequence of this alternate print, in which Laughton is prominently billed.

  • The running guy at 0:45, Oliver Peate did he say? Was that Burgess meredith? Played Mickey the trainer in ROCKY ? Damn fine actor.

But Charles Laughton, beyond compare.!Seen him as all sorts of characters, but he was at his best in Hobsons Choice and Spartacus

  • Meredith he is! He and wife Paulette Godard are the stars of the linking segments of the movie.

  • I, too, LOVE Charles Laughton more than pretty much anyone. I loved him in "Witness for the Prosecution"- his perfect acting and his unmatched wit and timing... long with wife Elsa (also, love Marlene Dietrich singing--"Fawing in wove agwen.."sounds like Elmer Fudd-priceless). LOVE ME SOME CHARLES! Thanks for this DwightFry :-)

  • You're very welcome! :-)

  • I love him in a particular way too. I was so little when I decided he is one of the most talernted and expressive actor. So, when searching dear things on Youtube, he was among my first gestures. Thanks so much, Dwight.

  • You're welcome!

  • I love Charles Laughton (I realize such a statement is redundant on this page!), but I'm having some strange experience currently: I could have sworn I'd seen this scene in the completed film...or...perhaps I've already seen this clip...

That's the great thing about Youtube: eventually, you forget what you've seen and can start all over again!

  • Love Charles Laughton! Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is a rare treat!

  • Laughton! as a child, I LIVED for the TV broadcasts of "The Hunchback" , "Rembrandt" , "Mutiny on the Bounty" - - and was amazed at his directorial skills in the only film he helmed:

    "Night of the Hunter"
