How important is a Stadium? Does it bring to the community enough to justify the costly investment of the city?
Last month, after a 9 hour debate, Miami Dade County commissioners voted in favor of building a $634 million, 37,000-seat, retractable-roof-covered, silver LEED certified stadium for the Florida Marlins with a $94 million parking lot. The stadium will be built by 2012 in Little Havana where the Orange Bowl once stood. The Florida Marlins, who have won two World Series titles, will only have to finance a little over a quarter of it. The city money pays most of it, and the profits go to private companies. Many support the stadium, saying that it will bring needed jobs and help the economy, while others believe that the money could be used in better ways.
I went to a couple different areas in Miami to get some opinions. Here is what the people in the park had to say:
great job man, thats a good idea to go and ask the opinions, my grandma used to lived pretty much ontop (a building next to it) of the orange bowl there so im familiar with the area. 5/5 btw the stadium's great and im sooo happy they finalized it.
