The accident occurred on 2 February 1989 during an attempt to land at Saab's airstrip at Linköping Airport. Rådeström remained in the tumbling aircraft, but escaped miraculously with only a fractured elbow and a few other minor injuries.

  • If memory serves me this was one of the first flights and there was software problems. I was not pilot error. The F-22 had a similar problem when they lit the burner at very low altitude. It oscillated and hit the ground, too. Both planes are freakin awesome

  • And now, lots of years later, it is easily one of the best fighters in the world

  • @efcpl

As solid as their choice in ww2 :)

  • @Perino7869 Actually, it had nothing to do with lighting the burner. The problem with the F-22 and its well publicized crash was due to the elevator input buffer overreacting to the pilots input. Instead of dampening out the pilots tendency to correct for minor pitch adjustments, the pitch computer should have "averaged" out these inputs. The result was the great video of the elevators making huge corrections just prior to smashing into the runway at Edwards. Software...........

  • @greendizerrr He's fine.

  • did anyone see the pilot getting out ?????

  • Swedish engineering at its finest...

  • @Simpson654 first time on youtube? there are numerous clips of that crash here as well

  • @MrPriiima It's only 2 Jas 39 gripen that have been destroyed by crashing... This was the very first flight with JAS, look how many for example F18, how many f18 do you think have crashed?

  • Oh, sorry, there are many. Software problem. Sure. Unstable design that was never meant to fly.

  • @Perino7869

Sure, Jävle Automatisk Shit is a great fighter, how come there are no videos when one crashed in Stockholm during an air show?
