On 23 Mar 09 I retired from the Canadian Forces after 38 years of service. I put this together in a hurry and left out huge chunks of my like which hopefully I can fix later. It starts off showing me in elementary school in Kitchener. I joined the Army Cadets in 1967 and spent a summer at Ipperwash cadet camp. I joined the reserves in 1969 in the Highland Fusiliers of Canada and transfered to the regular force in 1979. I served with 1RCR, Canadian Airborne Regt as a soldier and then switched to the Armoured Corp with the 8th Cdn Hussars. I became a personnel selection officer in 1990. I am now with the RCMP.

  • Hi Frank, nice presentation. Do you know where Colin Mombourquette is now?

  • @Jack1946 Colin is here in Ottawa. You can reach him at cmombo1652@rogers.com

    Cheers,

    Frank

  • 4:22 I see Zaperzan. Wow! I do recognize you, but I dont know you personally. I was in 1st troop para Recce under the command of Zoroes, Claggett, Bows and Swamanin (Plz excuse my spelling, I can't remember how to spell their names).

  • @SwordofManticorE I was a recce troop leader for RV82 and later transport officer. The Airborne liked the Recce Para troop when they realized the firepower and comms that the troop could provide on the drop zone. The Round Lake massacre didn;t help though. I remember Billy Soros, Doug Clagget, and Rick Bows. Good times.

  • I don't think Pete made Sgt before going to the reg force. I think that is Sgt Janson. He owned a Dairy Queen out by the Hwy Market on King St.

BTW, Finton has stayed all these years to make CWO and then CFR'd and is now Major maybe even LCol.

  • Nice shot of Ruth Johnston at 0:29 (gotta love the FN!)... so CFOCS actually taught you to eat with a knife & fork? ;-)

  • Ruth was ahead of her time. She wanted to be an infanteer before females where allowed in the combat arms. I wonder where she is now?

  • Hi Frank. This is great! A real treat to find you here. Brought back some great memories. Including the time you and I "volunteered" to cover off Christmas Holidays in Pettawa as Duty Officers for misbehaving! Glad to see you are well old soldier and to see the shots of your girls. All the best. Mike Kelly (8CH)

  • Ruth was (is!) one of the nicest people I've ever met. I haven't seen her at all in years... I think the last time she was in the company of Jimmy Marshall in the early 80's.

So to carry on with this theme, would that be Pete Wyciks (spelling?) on the left at 0:14?
