The Festival of the Desmontegar (Desmontegada) is one of the most ancient alpine festivals in existence, and variations of it can be found throughout the Trentino/ Alto Adige regions of Italy. It marks the symbolic beginning of Autumn, when e farmers celebrate the return of their families and livestock from their summer homes, the high mountain dairies known as "malghe," back to the valley for the winter.

The festival takes place over the course of 4 days, and includes special food and wine degustations, demonstrations by local artisans, concerts in the square, cheese-making demonstrations, a celebratory parade and a genuine Octoberfest Grand Finale.

The Desmontegada depicted in this video takes place in the Primiero Valley, high in the Italian Dolomites. The celebratory parade winds through the center of the valley, spilling into the tiny, medieval village of Tonadico, There, revelers dine on local cuisine under the big-top tent, sample goods such as locally-raised honey, and enjoy a genuine Octoberfest including traditional dancing accompanied by our ow Tyrolean Yodeling Trio, The Beatrich, whose music is heard throughout the video.

During the parade the local farm families parade through town dressed in traditional costume, and the cows, sheeo, goats, donkeys and horses are adorned with flowers andother beautiful decorations. The local folk dancing groups participate in the parade, and sometimes various musical groups peform as well.

This is one of the happiest and most anticipated celebrations in the regional calendar.
