Nice manipulation of reality. Dr. Maurice Hilleman complained to Merck that he could not carry out proper vaccine research with tst subjects imported from West Africa, as they had all sorts of contagious illnesses contracted in the wretched conditions in which they were housed in West Africa. He refused to use them and Merck had to use captive-bred animals that were disease free, thus more expensive. The unmitigated audacity of the manipulation of this deceased scientist is appallingly unethical

Hilleman was a notoriously-bad-tempered and bad language-using martinet who ran his labs strictly as he demanded. Merck followed his advice as the shattering cost and bad publicity from failed products was unacceptable.And he can be heard in no uncertain terms stating that Merck ahd better do it his way or he would quit.
