NYU College Republicans Protest Illegal Immigration

On Thursday, February 22nd hundreds of NYU students rallied against a publicity stunt organized by the NYU College Republicans where a mock illegal immigrant will be hunted in Washington Square Park. NYU College Republicans have titled the stunt "Find the Illegal Immigrant." At the event, one of the Republicans wearing the name tag "illegal immigrant" will be hidden amongst the crowd in Washington Square Park and members wearing "INS" name tags will hunt for the "illegal" in the park. The university club will give the first person who catches the "illegal immigrant" a $50 to $100 prize.

And this person singing saying "And I didn't break a single law"... Coming into this country illegally is breaking a law. Is there any nation in the world that allows people to just come in freely as they please? Also, think of the national security implications... In a world of rapidly advancing technology, where a bomb that can wipe out millions can be fit into a briefcase, what sense does it make to not regulate those coming into our country?

That "No Human is Illegal" line is bullshit... Illegal immigration is very similar to trespassing. All it means is that you're somewhere where you're not supposed to be. Border protection is one of the most primitive rights and obligations of any country, especially one governed by the rule of law. Besides, what incentive does any government have to produce sound policies if it only means that there will be a damaging, temporary influx of people coming to enjoy the benefits?

The problem between "legal" and "illegal" is the stereotype that we already have about this specific issue. If a border patrol sees a Hispanic or a European, who do you think he's going to question? Exactly!!! Many citizens of Mexican background have been deported based on their appearance. A big problem with "legal" is the waiting time, do you know how long the lines are and how slow the process of getting an immigrant visa is. I love how one likes to confuse illegal immigration with legal immigration. For 'educated' people, why is it so difficult to make that distinction. There's legal and there's illegal. Legal gets respect, illegal can leave now voluntarily or wait until this issue boils over and further action will be taken. THese actions will be towards people who ILLEGALY came to the United States. Many of whom came LEGALLY, will likely help escort the ILLEGAL ones out.
