Past Skills for Future Generations was developed to address a national shortage of people who are trained in traditional skills in the heritage sector. The project was based at Luton Hoo Walled Garden and other local historic conservation sites, across Luton and Bedfordshire.
Over two years a small group of young people aged 11 - 16 who were receiving alternative education provision, under the care of Luton Borough Council, worked with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) and English Heritage to develop accredited skills in conservation, horticulture and heritage craft skills.

I am very interested in this project. I think it is great to get disaffected kids doing work like this and also very important to keep heritage skills alive. I am not sure the two go perfectly together. What proportion of the kids do you expect will go on to keep rare skills alive in the sector?
