it's not that religion makes people stupider [u have to be stupid in the first place to be religious] - it's just that it doesn't make them smarter...
i like the line about voluntary gullibility. @ HaleyMary: i have to respectfully disagree. Even if people aren't explicitly forcing their beliefs onto others they are hindering the progression of intellectual evolution. In worst-case scenarios they are causing harm through inaction, for instance by refusing to vaccinate their children.

I don't think there is any harm in believing just as long as people who believe don't force their beliefs on others.
