In August 2010, eight STA Travel staffers from all over the world visited the Koh Phra Thong project in Thailand. We learn about the complete wipe-out of the local Bak Chok village, which was rebuilt by the local Lions Club to be reborn as modern day, Ban Lion. However, native islanders were hesitant to return from the mainland, largely because of limited employment in the area.
But with STA Travel's support, change is happening. In recent times, sustainable industries have once again begun to thrive alongside ecotourism, paving the way for a long-awaited revival.
