ZHANG:
Last weekend's heavy rains in southwest China have now triggered dangerous mudslides in Yunnan Province. Forty people were killed today and another 43 are missing in the countryside.
STORY:
The torrents of mud and rock over the weekend hit near Chuxiong city in Yunnan Province, which borders with Vietnam. And in the countryside near the provincial capital of Kunming, nearly a thousand houses are toppled or damaged.
The floods have affected an estimated 450-thousand people across Yunnan Province alone, and around 850-thousand in the neighbouring Guangxi region.
Flood water from southern China has also pushed up river levels in neighboring Vietnam.
An estimated 120 people have been killed on both sides of the border since flooding started last Friday.
