Dr.David C. Hoffman - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery School of Dentistry: NY Univ.- College of Dentistry Residency :Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Univ. Texas Health Science Center Parkland Memorial Hospital
I've had clicking/jaw problems as long as I can remember. My joint was "screwed" for lack of better words since 14. I did all the splint/braces/allighment stuff at that time. I'm 27 now, in excruciating pain, and feeling lost. I'm taking ibpreufen round the clock. I cant chew. I only "eat" liquids.. I don't talk for the most part (well to my fiance....maybe for a few min total), because it hurts. I'd cry, but the pain skyrockets with crying for whatever reason. I'm hoping for help. Anything.
Having been seeing Dr. Hoffman for about 2 1/2 years now, I must say, Dr. Hoffman is one of the best, if not the best, in his field. For those of his patients who wind up needing surgery, he always starts with less-invasive procedures. After many surgeries and procedures, we just recently made the decision to do a bilateral total joint replacement of my TMJs because of my degenerating condition. I'm almost not nervous for it because I know I'll be in such good hands with Dr. Hoffman!
Darn the camera guy inturrupted you (at 1:12)... you were talking about JRA (Juvenille Rhematoid Arthritis. I have had JRA since I was 2 years old. I am 34 now. The JRA is mostly in my knees, (have a little in ankles, shoulder, elbow, fingers- not too bad though). But my JAW!!! OW!! It hurts all the time. When I move it I hear grinding. Do you treat TMJ the same as JRA if it is in the jaw?
My pain is about gone after a prosthodontist made me a splint. Hopefully my bite can be later permantly corrected and I'll be able to eat solid foods again. fingers crossed.
To continue my story, Dentists don't realize how sick people get when their teeth don't fit together properly. I'm just now starting to function again since I am on a liquid an mush diet. I resent not being able to eat the foods I normally eat. I keep my mouth open in a natural position and this is relieving my tmj. The problem is I will not be able to eat solid foods unless my teeth can be fixed.
After a detist adjusted 4 crowns on my upper right I went into severe tmj. The pain was severe and constant. I lost 15 pounds right away because I couldn't chew and didn't know how to eat. I had pain in my jaw joint, neck , back. I went into entire body spams and was in bed for an entire month.

How is your jaw to this day? (regarding your TJM surgery) Did you have artheritis or something like that in the joint?
