  • wtf the shields the Romans used were longer

  • Yes and no. The shields Gemina is using are one of the shields the romans used. Sofar I have found four different shapes on different carvings. Check the trojan column for examples (1st/2nd century AD). Probably they had more. The bigger shields are traditionaly more Ceasar time (50 BC) or before.

  • Asian people from the far east like China did probably not serve in the legions. But legions or auxiliari units from people living in the Middle east did exist.

I don't know if black (or asian) legionairs served in Legio Decima Gemina. We will probably never know...

  • hmmm.... i wonder if a black or asian person could be a part of this reinactment group?

maybe there were untold stories of blacks and asians in the roman legions back then. But then again if that were to happen I'd also expect little green men to be in the Roman army too. LOL

  • Black persons probably served in the roman army in two ways. In Germany a auxiliari fortres was found which was occupied by a cohort/ala (cavalry unit) from Numidia (North Africa) so it is possible black people were part of them.

When Rome grew bigger people from all over the empire (like Africa) came to Rome. If these (from origine foreign) people became Roman citizens they or more probably their offsprings could serve in the legions.

  • love the armor, where can i get some?

  • As far as I know it is al self made. Look on the internet for "Segmentata" or "imperial Gallic Roman helmet" and you will find many shops around

  • i for one think this was beofre ceaser, from what i know (which isnt very much) they didnt charge in, the kept the sheild wall and moved like a machine

  • My dream is to have a complete set of a legionnaire uniform and gladius.

  • Magnifica X Legio Gemina. But no Roman would have covered his head with a hat, only the servants.

  • @Jacey521 Caesar was never emperor,Augustus, his nephew, was the first roman emperor from 30 BC to 14 AD and in his time they used often these shields, the first roman shields where round and big but from 30 BC to 100 AD they used these shields, after emperor Trajan they used again the rounded type

  • this sucks

  • @silverspoon97

    Yep sure are

They are usually just past the shoulder and low enough too only see your feet.

  • @basgordijn Yeah,Caesar time, that's why he was a great emperor,(The most known formation, the testudo formation was used with larger shields.)

  • how heavy was that stuff

  • I'm proud that i'm born in Apulum (XIII Roman Legion Gemina)
