If you think about it NCIS is like a big family. Gibbs as the proud but protective father. Jenny as the happy but dead mother. DiNozzo as the funny and childish first child of the gang. Kate as the smart but dead second child. McGee as the smart third child. Abby as the smart and funny fourth child who brings light to everyone's day. And Ziva who is the adopted child after Kate dies. In a way Gibbs was left by Jenny to protect the children and watch them grow. He did a wonderful job so far.
