This video demonstrates one way to use two strobes to catch action at both ends of the court, AND shoot halftime activities. The strobes are Alien Bee B800 strobes that are bounced.

  • Suggestion: invest in an off-camera microphone!

  • @AtlantaTerry - Wow, why didn't I think of that? LOL!! Funny, I have all kinds of mics and audio equipment (considering I've been a musicians for the past 30 years), but I haul enough gear around just to do the photo shoots and hauling around audio gear and making a major production of these videos isn't going to happen. Not what I set out to do, nor do I intend to make them major productions. Sorry.

  • Any suggest on companies to get Photographer's liability insurance?

  • @bikeracer333 - First place I would try is with whoever you have for your auto or home owners insurance. I have mine through State Farm.

  • Any suggestions on how to approach a high school to let me try this? I'm guessing they would have a few concerns at least at first. Any chance that in one of your videos you can show what actually happens when you shoot and trigger the strobes? I'm wondering how noticable at all they would be to the fans.

  • @gladivs - First foremost, you have to have liability insurance. If you don't have it, I would never recommend talking to a school about shooting, let alone strobing. And any school that has half a clue will ask you how much liability insurance you have.

  • @carlit0x Eeek, my bad! Thank ya thank ya!

  • @4Alpha7Kilo did u see the video? 1:31 said the settings

  • Where you use your strobes are placed/mounted throughout the duration of the game? Also, what settings are you shooting on? (Ex 1/250th, F/X.X, ISO XXX)

  • I tried this in December 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia. One of the coaches stopped me saying it is against Georgia High School Sports rules to use strobes during basketball games. But it's OK for football. Go figure.

BTW, he did NOT stop fans in the audience using on-camera flash, just me. Oh well, by the time he stopped me I had enough action to turn in.

He said I could use my strobes during breaks, half-time, etc.
