Scratching Post - Master of Action (1996)
Look at that pout!
This is the first of only a few Scratching Post videos. I remember not long after this that this Toronto area indie band got signed to Virgin subsidiary Enclave and the group really deserved international success, but then the label folded.
This video features the original bass player Brian Featherstone (I believe) who used to blow flames in concert. I never saw this line up but the later version which was still using a fantastic light show at their shows. It struck me as an indie micro-KISS performance and endeared me to the band live back then.
Meeting them I was struck by how they were the least pretentious Rock Stars I had ever met.

Lead Vocal, Guitar, cutie pie extraordinaire - Nicole Hughes
Lead Guitar - Mark (Moby) Holman
Drums - Jeff Depew
later bass player - Phil Zeller
At the time they were a better Veruca Salt from my own backyard. Listen to that metallic snap in that early sound!!
Seductive!
Long before "Nu-Metal" or garage rock took over in the early part of this decade.
Canada needs to SHOW more pride in their own!

  • Nice. I first heard SP on a compilation CD, got their first album by chance on a visit to Calgary in 1998, then had their last 2 albums sent to Australia.

Haven't seen this video before, so I thank you for the upload. Much appreciated.

  • @libertyrx I think I remember you posting from way back when Nicole had that "Rock Star's Guide to Scratching Post"

  • wow im not used to nicoles hair like this lol.

  • @KCuth42945 She's a doll and a Rock & Roll Dream!

  • first time i saw them ws on tom greens show. i like them... here in greece they dont even know tom green to know them unfortunatly... hmm thats a reason that we will not see them here live

  • @zouanmagic Scratching Post (and later Nicole group Minx -- no official cd release - see 'demonikol' channel) unfortunately will likely never play live again --broke up broke up around 2005. Nicole writes music for a TV / multimedia consortium with other songwriters in Canada. Moby, Mark Holman, went his own way, after the break up and is doing some kind of Devo science rock hybrid band. check out Mobotron channel
