In my town in Australia we have both message pagers and the siren which sounds much the same as this, the siren is only used for code 1 jobs such as structure fires and RCR's
@chechnya Here in Adams County, PA the dispatcher will advise which apparatus should be responded during the dispatch. Here will be Box-Township (or town, borogh, city)-address-types of call- units to respond- time
@bigburny1 actually its a call to duty siren. they used those before they had pagers. most volunteer departments still use them to warn people that the engines will be coming out soon. I should know this because I am a volunteer Firefighter and Quick Response Unit member.
Dont know where this is but down south in America the whistle is so that the Volunteers know that there is a fire, and to come to the station. But they also use radios its just a tradition.

I think that is a sentry siren, but it's hard to tell the model. Does your siren look like a little hat with horns? Or without the horns?
