Everyone, it's safe. The information these websites access is public information. It's the same as a random looking at your page. The recommended privacy settings it Friends Only for everything.

Thanks. Just stepped through this. FYI - they moved the "learn more" link to the box that pops up on the original opt-out page. So you have to choose between clicking "confirm" and "learn more." If you have trouble getting to the learn more link leave the box checked, follow the instructions to block the 3rd party sites, then go back and uncheck the opt-in box.
This is completely ridiculous, there should be a way completely disable the feature without having to go through each application. I hope Facebook will get slapped again by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

2 years ago I tried to block all the apps (60,000 at the time) and the system stopped letting me block new ones at about 6,000.
If someone can tell me how to make a video like this on my mac, I'd be happy to post a demo of what happens when I try to block a new application.
