Redneck keelbacks are venomous and pose a danger to humans, but they rarely bite, and most bites lead to no complications if very brief. This keelback doesn't have huge volumes of venom to transfer during a bite, but, if allowed to hang on will chew the venom in - causing death in some cases documented. Originally thought to be harmless until someone let one bite them for 2 minutes and ended up in intensive care in the hospital. Beautiful green, yellow, black, and red colored snakes. Other keelbacks are especially "hot". There is no antivenin (anti-venom) for this snake's venom.

Recently a boy was bitten on the island of Phuket and spent 14 days in intensive care fighting for his life. The venom attacks the kidneys specifically. The boy was bitten for about 20 seconds, the snake just wouldn't let go.

This snake wouldn't eat for me so I let her go quickly at a large stream within 1km of my home. I have seen 15+ of these snakes in southern Thailand. Once a friend had one in his swimming pool. They love water and gardens.

I now have another one - every bit as beautiful as this one - and a baby -which is super cool. See the "Baby Snakes" video in my channel. I need to find some frogs quickly or I'll be letting them go too.

Keelbacks eat frogs mostly here in Thailand.
