We traveled down across to the Philippines and right into the heart of a typhoon in October 2009 to go and get a close up look of what all the

commotion has been about at Cebu's maximum security regional prison.

What was waiting for us totally blew me away. Byron Garcia has been running a programme for a year or so now at the facility that has got

behavioural experts talking all over the globe.

Once a month, 1,500 odd prisoners (out of a total of around 1800 prisoners at the facility) put on a dancing spectacular for a crown of over

1,000 spectators that fly in from all parts of the globe. The prisoners perform for 3 hours in the blazing sun - but seemed to really enjoy every

moment of it - I think especially the last bit where they get to dance with and take photos with the guests - many of them hot looking young

Korean and other international women who have for some reason or other made their way to Cebu.

They gave me a real prison outfit to take home - it was Halloween the next night and I thought of wearing the suit out as a Halloween

costume - then I thought twice. It could very well backfire on me and I could end up finding myself not being able to leave the country!

In the first of 2 clips, we look at the performances and what it's like in the prison.

In the 2nd clip, we get a one on one interview with the brain behind it all - Byron Garcia. You can find his blog here:

  • wats going on that tv show?

  • @jonvel2002 It's a Thai TV show - we shot this one in the Philippines. The show is kinda like a Thai version of Ripley's Believe it or not. I fly around the world finding amazing / weird / extraordinary people, places and things.

  • Can anyone tell me what the Tagalog rap is in this video?

Anong pangalan nang rap dito sa video?

  • @hyde78chan I love all the languages across the Philippines. The history of how Tagalog actually became the national language is pretty interesting ... especially given that it wasn't the most widely spoken language in the Philippines then.

  • @way2hunk Yup ... I'm sure if I wore my squeaky clean prison uniform out that night I would have had the opportunity to enjoy many more nights in Cebu! :)

  • @music666able This is in Thai ... but the dancing prisoners were speaking in Cebuano and Tagalog (and English)

  • @rsebm Tagalog is the most widely used language in the Country. Philippines has over 200 dialects, so Northern Dialect and Southern ones are totally different. In order for them to communicate, Tagalog is used.

  • WHAT LANGUAGE IS THIS
