  • @TheAmeriswede Then why buy it?

No, I'm being serious. Its RRP is much lower than that of the ipad, if you paid a similar price to that which the ipad retails at then...sucks to be you, I guess?

You do realise that this is classed pretty much as an entry level tablet right? And you're telling me you paid the equivalent of 500 dollars for it? Where the hell from? I'm not saying you're lying, it just seems an oddly high price for a lower range tablet. I can get a new 101 g9 for £220 :\

  • @TheAmeriswede We're not talking about vista. We're talking about Android 2.2

Which runs fine on plenty of devices with comparable hardware to this archos tablet.

You know, it would of been easier to just admit that "having 256mb ram" in and of itself is not a problem when it comes to running android.

Frankly, I don't know why you'd buy a 200 dollar tablet if, as you claim, it retails for the same price as the ipad in your country.

  • @pamew Being able to run on a memory configuration is one thing and performance is another Windows Vista will run on 512 k but that does not mean you would want to do it. Archos engineers should have noticed the lag and should have made changes accordingly. It shows a lack a QA that is troubling. On top of that the device has been fraught with a wide array of problems (ghosting, USB problems, dead pixels, poor flash performance, touchscreen problems). Just go to the fans forum and take a look.

  • @pamew Actually in Sweden the cost difference was negligible. When you buy a product that costs (in Sweden) at least 500 dollars US you expect it to perform to a minimum standard (I am currently on my 3rd device the others "broke down"). I am not entirely displeased with the device but as an engineer and I found the choice of hardware and especially the build quality bordering on fraud (OK maybe an overstatement). With that being said the Archos media capabilities are impressive.

  • @TheAmeriswede "Look at all the 2.2 devices what is the ram on those devices?"

anything from 192mb on the HTC dream (yes, it can run it) to around 1gb+ on larger devices.

For someone who is telling me that I know nothing about operating systems, you sure seem unable to acknowledge that Android runs on a wide range of memory + cpu setups :\

  • 2) If you actually READ my statement rather than just rushing in in an attempt to attack positions I don't hold, you'd see that I wrote:

"The only way your post could make sense was if Android 2.2 needed 512 MB of ram to at comparable speeds to iOS under 256"

Notice the "iOS under 256" part, and how it is in fact, distinctly NOT me saying that you thought it needed 512 to function.

If you get to assume that I can't know anything about operating systems, then I'll assume you to be illiterate.

  • @TheAmeriswede "I never said iOS needed 512 megs of RAM"

And I never claimed that you said such a thing.Android 2.2 doesn't need that much either. It would certainly benefit from higher levels, but doesn't require it.

So in conclusion, you bought something much cheaper than an ipad and were surprised when it didn't perform as well as an ipad?

    Haha, okay.

(hint: cheap products tend to be cheap for a reason.)

  • @pamew You show a fundamental lack of understanding on how OSes work. I will repeat myself. I never said iOS needed 512 megs of RAM. In fact it does not. Android 2.2 should have it. As a result of the 256 megs the 101 is very very laggy. I use mine all the time and it drives me crazy. I have used an IPAD 1 and 2 and they are both smooth as butter. This is because of how android works and this is not a negative on Android. Android is great, 101 not. A dog not without a few merits but still a dog.

  • @TheAmeriswede The only way your post could make sense was if Android 2.2 needed 512 MB of ram to at comparable speeds to iOS under 256, and I've yet to see any evidence to support that statement. I could of course be wrong, in which case I'm sure you'll have evidence of it.

  • @pamew Either reread my post or take a finite math course and pay attemtion to the concept of mutual exclusivity. It is neither implied by me nor would I make that assumption.
