Parallel Action

The final project of the course will introduce you to the wonders of film editing. It will be shot out of class and off campus. It requires significant planning and organization on your part.

In teams of two or three, create a short film (3-4 minutes) that involves two independent events or story lines. As you cut back and forth, the audience should begin to see a convergence of ideas -- there should appear to be a connection between the two, perhaps in an unexpected or surprising fashion. For example: a man preparing a gourmet dinner, cross-cut with a woman dressing up to go out; or a couple returning to their hotel room, cross-cut with a burglar ransacking their room.
