This is a recording of our Cancer, Data, and Policy Issues for AAs and NHPIs webinar presented on January 25, 2012 from 3:00 -- 4:00PM PST. This webinar gives you an opportunity to:
• Learn AA and NHPI census and demographic information,
• Gain insight on the data collection bill, AB 1088 and how it helps to support the critical need for ethnic-specific data on AAs and NHPIs.

This webinar was presented by Mr. Zul Surani and Assemblymember Mike Eng.

Zul Surani is currently the National Advisory Council Chair of the Asian & Pacific Islander Cancer Survivors Network (APINCSN). He has served as a public health administrator, consultant and ardent advocate in disease prevention and access to care for over a decade. Since 2000, he has been the partnership program coordinator in the Southern California Office of The National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service of California (CIS). Mr. Surani is also a co-founder of Saath, an organization serving South Asians who have cancer in areas of support, navigation, prevention and early detection.

Assemblyman Mike Eng represents the 49th Assembly District in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. He is the Chair of the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee and formerly chaired the Assembly Select Committee on Hate Crimes. After graduating from UCLA School of Law he established a law firm for low income Asian and Latino immigrants. He taught the nation's first class on Asian Americans and the Law. He also helped produce an instructional video on how to become a US citizen which became the basis for an Emmy winning TV series. Assemblymember Eng has promulgated legislative reports on AA and NHOPI disparities in health, mental health, and education. Mike previously served as Councilman and Mayor in the City of Monterey Park.
