Old 8mm video of Crystal Beach Amusement Park in Crystal Beach, Ontario, Canada. I believe this was shot by my grandfather Ed Hall in the late summer/early fall one year in the early 60's after the park was packed up for the winter.
i was just walking on the pier at crystal beach today. born in 93 so i missed all of what used to be an amusement park, but hearing stories of the place and walking on the pier today knowing that it used to be a place everyone loved was kinda sad. wish it was all still there.
Crystal Beach was a really important part of my childhood, and I miss it. Coming to Canada from Northern Ireland, we found it somewhat lonely here at first, and things were a bit of a struggle. One of the first times I and my siblings had a truly amazing day and stopped thinking about home for 5 minutes was the first time we got to go to Crystal Beach. A truly friendly park that was nowhere as impersonal as it's competitors, such as Canada's Wonderland. It shouldn't have been closed.
I was born and raised in Crystal Beach. Both my parents worked at the Park when I was young. Then as I got older, I worked there myself. I worked the last 8 years it was open.............Such a sad thing to loose such a wonderful place. Now the land is all fenced in and an expensive housing complex went in BUT I understand it belongs to U.S. and local residents of Crystal Beach can not even visit the place.
In the children's section I remember there was a display under glass which had snakes painted on the side and the sign read "Warning: Baby Rattlers" . When you looked inside there were plastic baby rattle toys in the sand!
Apparently, they said they were losing money to the other amusement parks such as Canada's Wonderland & Fantasy Island. So it was torn down and an expensive housing complex went in.
But everytime I went to Crystal Beach it was always packed. In the last years the Comet Roller Coaster train was purposely put on backwards which was a fantastic way to ride the Comet - backwards!
Why in the world would they get rid of such an amazing place? I can't believe they didn't hold on to the amusement park it was so old and historical. Why did they get rid of it?
Does anyone else remember the Swan rides through the tunnel of love? Or was that a dream I had? God I miss Crystal Beach every summer! Wonderland just doesn't cut it for me. Too commercial and so impersonal. At Crystal Beach here it felt warm and friendly. Unlike Wonderland!!! Somebody get with it and create another park like this one. A park with a heart and a soul. & bring back our Comet to Canada!!!
