Seeing the whole ship, and wandering around inside, well it's just a beautiful thing.

Building the Enterprise from the inside out has been an extreme challenge. I'm just not sure what to do with it next: any suggestions?

I'd like it if people were able to wander thru the model, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this, especially with the copyright issues.

  • Dude, if you're gonna try to render a 1:1 scale TOS Enterprise model, you're gonna need a helluva lot more horsepower! Try starting with building a Beowulf cluster out of some old, junker computers and use that as a render farm.

  • @fuzzybeard2016 Sorry about the graphic quality - the work is rendering in a real time program at the same time another program is recording the frames for the video... not the best way to do it, but there's few choices. VRML is a real-time renderer. Render farm would be great, but wouldn't help with VRML!

  • @TowTruckJoe1 i totally agree with you! the money that could be made from it would FAR outweigh the money needed for it to be built. it would be amazing to roam the halls of the USS Enterprise (although, i think alot of imagination would be needed, considering not EVERY deck and room, was shown in the tv series).

  • @mycrofttrek well, I am trying to build the whole thing in Virtual Reality using the published architectural deck plans!! EVERY ROOM! or is that cabin?

  • If some big companies pulled their heads out of their ass...they could build a full size enterprise. Of course it would be stuck to the earth with concrete...But think of the tourism and conventions..and all the marketing. It could possibly inspire millions of the possibilities...of the future and space travel. Now that would be cool...what would be the downside?? We spend money on stupid shit everyday...how about something fun that inspires us.??

  • ive always wondered why they didint just have a game of just walking around the enterprise, every room and every deck

somebody has thought of this already with concept artwork..it is called:- ALL TREKKERS UNITE TO BUILD IT. A REAL ENTERPRISE. (star trek for real) on youtube...

  • @TowTruckJoe1 look:-

ALL TREKKERS UNITE TO BUILD IT. A REAL ENTERPRISE. (star trek for real) on youtube

  • @mycrofttrek I once knew a guy with no money, but he had big dreams. They all centered on the property and money of others. He proposed a full-sized Enterprise be built with a tour inside. He received a polite letter from Paramount.

  • I have not seen resolution like this since the 80's. Is this an old DOS program?

  • Also- What the Crap was Lucas thinking when he scrapped the full-scale models of the Falcon and the fighters!? -Are you joking ??? The money he would have been making -TO THIS DAY- from having a hangar/Museum of those crafts would have made him the wealthiest man in the universe! lol... -So much of those proceeds could be given both to charity as well as to further research on actual exploration. -I'd have been there a hundred times by now!

  • This is something I've always thought about doing -and was my sole reason to play any kind of lottery ;) -As some will agree, and some won't, I would be a bit more interested in the refit version being in full scale. However, The way I would think it could work best is to have a location excavated in the desert and build it inside. that way, the tour could begin with a 360 exterior tour. -essentially 'drydock' underground .. -then hire MIT/Paul Allen to build actual drives and OFF YOU GO! ;)

  • It doesnt have to fly, just be in a hangar at a US AFB that is over 947ft long by 417ft wide by the height(138 ft, I think?)

  • Some guy built a 1:1 scale model of the version from tng in minecraft you should check it out

  • @mcsdaver

Things in orbit slowly come back down. Unless it's extremely lightweight, or passed the orbit required to stay stable. Otherwise you need thrusters to keep it back up.

Not only would building it in space be extremely expensive (cargo in the Space Shuttles was something like $10.000 a pound) but if it came back down, it would basically obliterate whatever it hit.

It's taken them 17 years, with the help of multiple countries, to get to the current ISS. This would be impossible.
