If u think ur framerate is bad, my minecraft decided to treat every chunk i've ever been in as if it has only just been loaded up for the first time, causing me ridiculous levels of lag (i haven't got the fastest laptop here)

I'm sure you've gotten a couple responses already, but normal spawns more mobs than on hard mode, so that's why you ran across less.
