I really like light-gun style games, and the Wii has many of them. I say light-gun "style" because of course, the Wii doesn't use a real light-gun, but the gameplay is quite similar of course. Here we have Martian Panic, a fun budget priced light-gun type game, in the mold of Virtua Cop or House of the Dead. Not that it is as good as those games. But it has it's own style and, in my opinion, is really fun, and provides a lot of great shooting action!

The game takes place in a retro 1950s sci-fi movie environment. There are many attempts at humor, and while they aren't for everyone, they do seem to basically be family-friendly. No foul language or blood and gore here, despite all the blasting you'll do.

This game succeeds in it's intended goal: a fast-paced, family-friendly arcade shooter, at a budget price.

[There is a version of this game which comes with a green blaster-type attachment for your Wii remote and nunchuk, but I just have the regular game only version, so I can't comment on it. Although, I think I've seen that rifle attached with other games, only in white. Hooray for reusing the same design! :) I have to admit, though, it does look pretty cool.]

  • I just got this with the gun attachment included. This is a particularily amusing game, but it became extremely difficult toward the end.

  • @TheLegolasguy Yes, even on normal difficulty, it gets pretty challenging!

  • I'm also a sucker for light-gun games, and this looks like a lot of fun, but my friggin' Wii broke. :(

It's the first console ever to die on me so I'm not keen on getting another anytime soon, but if I do happen across a cheap one I might pick this game up for a quick 'blast'.

  • @Quimbyrbg Your Wii broke? :( That's a shame. I think the only console I've had die is an Xbox (original.) Well, the hard drive died. I really am biased towards liking this style of game, but I do think Martian Panic is fun! Which you already know from the video. I think it's worth it, and it should be cheap hopefully -- it was a budget title to begin with. I also like Pirate Blast, in case you want another cheap light gun game. If you have a functional Wii that is. :)

  • There is just one more thing that doesn't make sense to me when I saw the trailer video why didn't they show any life hearts at all on the screen were they trying to cover it up???

  • @skmusic Hmmm...I don't really know. I think I watched the same trailer, and it looks like there are 2 players playing, but there still should be hearts at the top of the screen (you share the same hit points.) My only *guess* is that the trailer was using a version of the game before it was completely finished? But that is only a guess, sorry I can't really answer your question. :)

  • do u need a gun?

  • @steveo2013 very interesting

  • @skmusic

i worked on that game, and we had a god-mode/unlock-all code programmed into it up until submission so we could easily test out what we needed. the footage was recorded while the code was activated.

  • Hey "niceandgames" since your an awesome dude can you post walkthrough videos of the Martian panic game???

  • You could be right about that man ( even though it's just your guess ) maybe the developers did do a demo of the game before the final stages of finishing the fully made game good thinking man : )))))))))
