I tried to install it but it didn't work and now my mac whenever i turn it on it just turns off and i am VERY FRUSTRATED and don't know what to do

I can buy a Snow leopard CD for only 5 bucks but its not the original one.. is there any downside of installing using a pirated CD? will is still be able to update my MAC even if I used the pirated/copied CD? please help.
