Thanks for your comment! What a boring world it would be if we all agree! I still stick to my guns. Lata is no doubt a great singer but what buggers me is the control these sisters have in the music industry.

Whether people accept it or not....Vani and P.susheela are far better than Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar. I remember once SPB mentioning that " People call P.susheela as south Indian Lata Mangeshkar. Actually Lata should be called as North Indian P.Susheela ".... Lata and Asha bhosle said they will not sing in Vasant desai's composition if he gave chances to Vani jayaram.......I hate Lata and asha bhosle....what cunning ladies....shame on them....

she still sounds the same... heard her live recently. vani ji is simply brilliant. no one can ever sing her songs and her pronunciations are impeccable no matter which language she sings in. true progidy!

@brihas86 : Legendary music directors like G Ramanathan and R Sudharasanam and Veda shamelessly lifted tune after tune after tune from old Hindi films. There are examples like Yaar Nee - every single song of which is copied lock, stock and barrel from Woh Kaun Thi. I agree that Janaki doesn't have much accent, but Vani had truckloads of it. In fact, she did not deserve the assignments she got in Hindi. Neither did Yesudas or SPB. The Hindi music directors were actually generous.

@pinkpetal3008 : SPB has never said that Lata should be called PS of the south. Where did you read such a thing? In another post you say that if Bollywood were fair, Lata would have had to stay at home losing all her assignments to Vani. This is false. It was Vani whose work in Tamil films reduced when Ilayaraja promoted Janaki and later Chithra. Today, no music director calls Vani to sing in Tamil films, as her voice has become shrill, weak and doesn't suit today's heroines.

The film "THOMASLEEHA" - released in 1975,song sung by Great Vani.Meaningful lyrics and this program was in 2007 by the same Legend. Can u find any distraction in her voice ? in her feel ? Marvelous !!!!

surely you aren't talking of naushad, madan mohan, and khayyam? or roshan, sd burman, or ravindra jain? in any case, vani jayaram and p susheela and s janaki are all fantastic singers obviously.. among the best in the world. i just personally am not a huge fan of their voices and singing style. but i'm not biased; i think chitra is easily one of the top 5 female singers ever. however, no one can deny, lataji and ashaji are institutions.
