Stiffelio - Jose Carreras
Lina - Sylvia Sass
Stankar - Matteo Manuguerra
Raffaele - Ezio Di Cesare

"Raffaele enters to place the note in the volume, which has been agreed to by he and Lina. Jorg, the elderly preacher, observes this just as Federico arrives to take the volume away. Jorg's suspicions fall upon Federico and he shares what he knows with Stiffelio who is at the party organized by his friends. Seeing the volume and realizing that it is locked, he is told that Lina has a key. She is summoned, but when she refuses to unlock it, Stiffelio grabs it and breaks it open. The incriminating letter falls out, but it is quickly taken up by Stankar and torn into many pieces, much to the fury of Stiffelio."

Recorded in June 1979
(It is the one of a few studio recordings of this little known opera. I believe this was the first studio recording of Stiffelio)

  • I knew that Jose Carreras sang it in the 70 - these, but I never heard this recording. Thank you for such a rarity and I ask for more:)))

  • @baja6211 If there is any particular arias you would like just let me know I can try my best to upload them. I do have another video from this recording up.

  • wow, I had no idea that he sang this opera so early, what a thrilling vouce...

  • It is a really wonderful recording. At times he pushes his voice just a tad. But I think that this role asks for that. It is a very emotional opera.

  • interesting - what a melodies! I saw Gardelli's Stifello few days ago in shop with second-hand CDs.

Sass speaks wrong "rr", isn't she?

  • I didn't know he sang this so early either. It's very exciting...grand singing!
