Greta Garbo passed away on 15th April 1990.

The Swedish Sphinx has never ceased to mesmerise us. Whether it be her silent films, her talkies or those paparrzzi shots in her final years, she was always the essence of mystery, THE movie star whose presence and mark on film is unsurpassed.

With eyes that told so much and yet revealed so little, Garbo is a fascination for the eyes.

Her whiskey-and-cigarettes voice haunts us to this day, and is remembered when it was first heard in ANNA CHRISTIE.

With all this physical beauty, it is easy to oversee the depth and quality that Garbo possessed in the acting skill. In every role she gave her heart and soul, made the character real, tugged at our heartstrings and gave performances that are the benchmark for every actress after her.

Greta Garbo is, and remains, the most precious being that lit up the screen.

The music to the photos at the beginning is ANY OTHER NAME composed by Thomas Newman for American Beauty. And the song for the clips is MY LIFE by Dido. The song talks about being independent, which Garbo was.

Does anyone know what the first song is entitled? I couldn't think of a song that could possibly better capture the essence of Greta Garbo--beautiful, powerful, and yet somewhat tragic and morose.

Can you imagine her life stories if any one of us had the opportunity of being her inner circle? I would've liked to have seen her NY apartment after she passed in April, 1990. Sad in many ways how she became a prisoner to her fame. Then again, I never knew her and she might have been very happy. Who knows?

I think her allure was that she became reclusive which I believe was a woman with a fascinating career with such sadness of the soul. Her turning her back on Hollywood made her all the more genuine as she aged and walked about New York. Many of her movies conveyed unfulfilled happiness which makes one wonder how much was script or her real self.
