A worn car shoe is the equivalent to a car tire with low air pressure. An extremely worn shoe is no different then a flat tire. A maintenance mechanic will check the condition of the shoes and replace them when necessary. The shoes in this video are made out of a graphite embedded plastic.
Rails are usually lubricated with rail oil. This provides a smooth elevator ride. Symptoms of worn shoes are excessive side to side float and knocking sounds as the elevator is in motion. Check your shoes regularly.
