While at Middle Cove Beach located a short drive outside of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, during some usually high waves on May 6th, 2008, I shot this video of the waves and some huge chunks of a passing iceberg that had broken off and washed ashore. An iceberg can be seen off in the distance as well. The pieces on the beach had to be around 5 feet tall for one piece and the second one had to be around 9-10 feet tall.
While trying not to get wet, I made it a game to try and run around the pieces of iceberg before the waves came back in around that part of the beach. Normally walking on that part of the beach wouldn't have been a problem but these were some of the biggest waves I've seen on Middle Cove Beach and coming in the furthest I've seen in the area. Needless to say fun was had by all on the beach that day as you can hear the sound of children laughing in the background. This video is fun and semi-relaxing at the same time. Sort of reminds me of those National Geographic or National Film Board movies. As a note for those not in the know. Newfoundland is located in a part of the Atlantic Ocean known as Iceberg Alley as every year hundreds of Icebergs break off from the Artic Circle and float south through the Atlantic, past Newfoundland until they break up or melt as they go further south. 250 miles off the coast of Newfoundland is where the H.M.S. Titanic met it's demise in April of 1912 because it hit one of these massive icebergs. Iceberg boat tours & tourism from cruise ships have become very popular over the years because of this occurance. In 2008 alone, over 500 icebergs passed Newfoundland for our sightseeing pleasure!
wow...that seems very odd to me..the ocean that I'm used to is 75 to 80 degrees and the only ice I ever see on the beach has been tossed from somebody's ice chest..lol...nice camera work...5 stars.

Thanks.. I am glad everyone is enjoying the video. I plan on putting up some more videos in the future on pack ice and icebergs but they will just be still photo compilations with added music.

After a few months abscence from adding videos I made because of computer problems, I return with another natural event video. I was going for a more serious videographer type of look and feel for this video. This video is also going back to my more scenes of Newfoundland type of video and I hope it has a good audience. I love anything to do with icebergs. Back to my DJ type of videos real soon. Enjoy and pass the link along!
