Super Mario's Wacky Worlds was a cancelled video game planned for the Phillips CD-i, and was in development by NovaLogic. The game attempted to duplicate the gameplay of Super Mario World for the SNES. Due to the limitations of the CD-i, several features could not be included in the game, such as large numbers of sprites on the screen, Mode 7, and many visual effects.

Though the game sprites are based on Super Mario World, the level design is based on Earth locations rather than the Mushroom Kingdom or Mushroom World. [wikipedia]

  • Reminds me of the scary maze game.

  • I liked the part where the game sucked.

  • Nintendo actually liked this!

  • Super Shit land.

  • @RetroShinigami Yes, the 400 series of models were intended to be aimed more squarely at the game market, and had a more "console"-like design, while earlier consumer models, intended as all-in-one media players, looked like a CD player or VCR. Of course, by the time the 400-series came along, the specs were very obsolete compared to the Saturn, PS1, etc etc....come to think about it, it couldn't even do some of the graphical things the Mega-Drive could do....

  • A good example of how unfinished this game was: The music. It is merely looping SNES audio tracks. Had it been finished, thould have been replaced with with music with inferior composition and arrangement, but "CD Quality Sound", a major part of the advertising for early-to-mid-1990s CD based consumer products.

  • @RetroShinigami Just a slight correction: CD-i was not intended to be the SNES add-on. CD-i was first announced in 1986 even though it was released in 1991. Though Philips was indeed working on a CD add-on for the lovely SNES, them using Nintendo characters may also have something to do with patents held by their Magnavox division.

  • 0:10 Why the hell did you go through the wall?

  • A team is working on recreating this game to add psyhics and custom music, simply put, finishing it.
